Hannah Nilsson by Hannah Nilsson

Painting with Light

For this photo, I used a flash of 8 seconds and an aperture of f22. This photo was taken in the dark room and it was a fairly complicated process. We took a non-flash picture, starting with the iphone in front of the lens. Then, without moving it, I turned it off and removed it from the lens. Next Simrin took a flash picture of me with another camera so I would show up in the background. This 3-person job was tedious but I was determined to get the perfect shot and after many tries, I think we succeeded. I liked the idea of using the iphone home-screen because it is something that everyone (in Oakville at least) is very samiliar with. Our phones are a very important part of our lives and they become a part of our identity. Also, the picture of me is very simple and laidback and I like that it contrasts with the high-tech phone. Lastly, I like the way that the phone fades out and my face fades in as if its photoshopped. I think in a few years it will be funny to look back and see how cool I thought this was.

Panorama

In this panorama I extended the hallway so that you can see Victoria and Angela stuck in lockers as well as the end of the hallway. It's a combination of 5 photos put together and it bulges out in the middle as if you were actually looking up and down the hallway. The photo has this effect because i stayed in one place and rotated the camera. I realize now that I could have moved the tripod and got a more exact version, but I also like it this way. I think the picture is fun and simple. Victoria is actually stuck in the locker and Angela is hiding her face. I took this picture with little notice, so it doesn't look staged in any way.

Jennilee is a canadian photographer who takes pictures of everything from people to places to things to beautiful patterns. Her work inspires me because I like that she takes pictures of very simple things and makes them into interesting works of art. She mixes made-made/ inustrial things with natural things, like pavement and leaves. Her pictures often have little to no movement in them. They are stiflingly still and have a calm/ surreal feeling to them, which is one of the things that draws me to her photos so much. She keeps a colour theme of washed out colours and sometimes mixes in more saturated ones. She also uses a lot of orange and green. A lot of her photos include greenery and sun flares. I think her photos are dynamic despite how simple they are. I love her style and want to emulate her work.
